Greetings! My name is Prof. Alecea Standlee and welcome to my website! I am an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Gettysburg College. I put together this website so that you can learn about my interests as a scholar and teacher .
I specialize in digital culture and online behavior, sociological theory, gender and sexuality, and social inequality. My scholarship explores the implications of the integration and normalization of online communication technologies in the lives of Millennials and Gen Z. My current work seeks to understand the impact of online surveillance on participants’ perceptions of privacy, individual identity representation, and group affiliation.
As a scholar, I also remain committed to my research in the experience and needs of first-generation college students. I believe that public scholarship, especially in subjects such as this, are very important.
I am often asked what I most enjoy about my career. Simply put, I love both teaching and research! I enjoy encouraging students to gain knowledge and learn to use critical thinking skills. I believe in a pedagogical approach that emphasizes a collaborative discussion based learning environment. Check out my Teaching Philosophy and Materials pages to learn more.
I encourage you to explore my site. You can find a bit of everything from my academic career. If that is not enough, feel free to Contact Me to learn even more. Enjoy your visit!
